Chapter 295No Escape [2]

Pausing for a moment, Astrid thought before replying.

"Right after I came down...or when that voice spoke."

Rubbing his head and scratching his hair, Kazuki muttered.

"That voice...it was the robber, right? He was the one."

Everyone nodded their heads in unison, but two figures remained outwardly stressed and anxiously glanced around.

Lily and Ruby.

Both of them knew the true identity of the robbers, so they knew...that voice couldn\'t have been Ren.

Lily, calmly considering that the voice could have been a part of Ren\'s distraction to escape the vault, looked around for any signs of Ren.

This was an enormous problem.

If that voice truly was someone else who was not associated with Ren, that meant there was another figure in this underground space.

And...the entrance to the vault was completely open and unprotected.

The vault containing a mystical beast capable of destroying the entire capital city and academy was open for taking.

Not wasting another second, Lily ran up the obsidian door, immediately casting an artificial waterfall to cover up the entrance to the vault.

But...was she too late?

Seeing Lily sprint up the obsidian door without warning, the main cast immediately followed while the two recruiters confusedly stayed behind.

Standing atop the obsidian door and next to her artificial waterfall, which was covering the gap into the vault, LIly said.

"The vault is still open! If there\'s an intruder, we have to be alert."

Hearing this, the two recruiters immediately came to their senses as they realized they had completely forgotten about the vault\'s open entrance.

Soon, the main cast and Lily were all standing beside the gap with their weapons drawn.

Breaking the awkward silence, Lily pointed through her waterfall and into the vault before saying.

"We should go in. It\'ll be easier to protect the vault from there."

There was also the chance that the owner of the unknown voice was already inside the vault.

Raising his hand awkwardly, Zach asked.

"I mean...are we allowed to? Last time, the principal said we shouldn\'t go in."

Shaking her head, Lily replied.

"That voice...if it isn\'t the intruder, that means there\'s another person inside here with us. And this door has been left unprotected for over a minute before we came back."

"It\'s possible that there\'s already someone else inside the vault..."

Confused, Kaenki waved his katana around and replied.

"I thought you said there\'s nothing to take in the vault. I mean, the last robber didn\'t take anything."

Sighing, Liam shook his head and stared at Kaneki.

All the anger that had accumulated as a result of Lily betraying the main cast and not giving them a full story, combined with the fact that the vault\'s robber hadn\'t managed to get away, suddenly burst out.

"Man, if there\'s nothing to take...then what the actual hell are we doing here!? OF COURSE, THERE\'S SOMETHING THERE, OR ELSE WE WOULDN\'T RISK OUR LIVES. YOU THINK WE FOUGHT A WHOLE HORDE OF DJINNS TO PROTECT NOTHING!?"

"..."

"..."

Within seconds, the entire underground was plunged into an awkward silence as Liam glared at Kaneki.

Waving his hands up and down, Kaneki paid no attention to the awkward atmosphere and replied in the most cheerful and happy voice known to mankind.

Stay connected with empire

"Geez, ever heard of sarcasm?"

"YOU SON OF B-"

"LIAM STOP!"

"LIAM, DON\'T LET HIM BAIT YOU!"

Kevin and Zach, both stepping up, each restrained one of Liam\'s hands, desperately holding him back from reaching Kaneki.

Meanwhile, Kaneki was almost on the floor dying of laughter, with Kazuki shaking his head and staring at him.

Irene was desperately covering her mouth, and beside her, Ruby and Alya simply stood in awe of the whole scene.

It wasn\'t that often that you saw the first-ranked student in the entire academy and a famous hero almost getting into a fight.

On the other hand, Lily stood in the corner, next to the gap, with an expression grimmer than death itself.

There was a chance that a mystic beast was going to be robbed and set free today, but her entire group was fighting amongst each other or dying laughing.

Leaning down and looking through the waterfall that she made, Lily muttered.

"Maybe...Ren was right."

However, she failed to notice that Alya was right beside her, leaning down and looking through the artificial waterfall.

"What was that, Lily?"

"Nothing..."

Ignoring the mention of a very familiar name, Alya sighed before asking.

"Are we going inside the vault or not? I understand that the principal might not want us to see the inside, but you\'re right; there is a possibility that an intruder is inside."

Nodding her head, Lily dismissed the artificial waterfall, and then, without any hesitation, she crouch-ran through the gap.

Jumping off the gap and landing inside the vault, Lily disappeared from the main cast\'s sight within seconds.

Following right behind her were Alya and Irene, who more cautiously walked through the gap before slowly climbing down.

As the argument between the boys calmed down, they finally all turned around, noticing that almost all of the girls had disappeared.

Looking at the open gap, they quickly regained their composure before also equipping their weapons and crouching.

Unable to fix his massive battle axe through the gap, Zach almost shed a tear as he left if lying on the obsidian door outside.

Finally, the two recruiters, Liam, Kevin, and Zach, all followed, with Liam at the very front and Kaneki at the very back.

That left just one person.

Ruby, staying silent and in front of the gap, secretly took out her smartwatch before rapidly sending a text message.

[Ruby: Hey, that voice. Was that part of one of your schemes? The random voice that spoke like a minute ago.]

[Ren: It wasn\'t...]

[Ren: Don\'t do anything yet. I\'m coming up.]

[Ren: Wait, DO NOT GO IN.]

[Ren: I\'ll be right there.]
