Book 2: Chapter 84: The Power of the Huge Wave
Min Jiangtao turned around, trembling, and saw his "junior brother" seated calmly in the room, holding a teacup and pouring tea with measured movements. The rich aroma of tea filled the room, but instead of enjoying it, he felt an overwhelming sense of killing intent and the stench of death.
"Don\'t be nervous, have a seat," Zhang Xuan said, gesturing invitingly.
Min Jiangtao’s body stiffened. Knowing he dared not refuse, he shuffled forward step by step and sat down uneasily. Picking up the tea bowl with shaking hands, he forced a smile. "Junior Brother, you\'re not resting?"
"There\'s no need to be nervous. If I really wanted to kill you, you’d have already been dead the moment you showed disrespect," Zhang Xuan said casually, waving his hand.
Min Jiangtao exhaled a long breath. That made sense. If the other party truly wanted him dead, he wouldn\'t still be breathing.
Zhang Xuan, noticing his silence, began tapping the table lightly with his fingers. His expression was calm as he gazed at Min Jiangtao. "Since you\'ve figured it out, there\'s no need for me to hide it anymore. You understand what a Chaotic Fate Practitioner is without me explaining, right? This whole act was staged to infiltrate their ranks. It’s a decision made collectively by all the elders of the Destiny Hall headquarters. You should know what this means!"
Zhang Xuan had killed Mo Qing, fully aware that the Mo Dao Sect wouldn\'t let it slide and would likely send their experts, maybe even Mo Baiye himself. Thus, he preemptively set up this elaborate trap to lure them in.
Explaining outright that his actions were part of a grand "scheme" to target the Chaotic Fate Practitioners would convince no one. However, leaving a trail for someone to uncover the "truth" on their own would cement belief. People naturally trust what they think they\'ve discovered through their own efforts. This was why Zhang Xuan feigned injury earlier—to give Min Jiangtao time to "investigate."
"I understand…" Min Jiangtao nodded repeatedly.
From Zhang Xuan’s words, he gleaned two critical pieces of information.
First, everything the guard commander had revealed was true—this individual had impersonated Ling Buyang to deal with the Chaotic Fate Practitioners.
Second, the man before him held an extraordinary identity, likely that of a senior elder at the Destiny Hall headquarters.
No wonder Elder Ouyang Hai showed such respect. Whether in status or strength, this man was far above his peer.
"Good. Since you understand, I hope you’ll keep this to yourself. If the Chaotic Fate Practitioners catch wind of this ahead of time, all our efforts will be wasted. Not only will you suffer the consequences, but the entire Mo Dao Sect and even the Zouyi Dynasty will face the wrath of the Destiny Hall headquarters," Zhang Xuan said, his eyes narrowing. In a blink, a domineering aura surged forth like a mighty dragon soaring through the heavens. Min Jiangtao nearly fell off his chair in fright.
The sheer pressure left him gasping for air. It was clear this man’s cultivation was far beyond his own.
"I-I understand…" Min Jiangtao stammered, his grip loosening on the Mo Dao weapon, which clattered to the ground.
Seeing his frightened demeanor, Zhang Xuan nodded in satisfaction.
The intimidating aura was, of course, drawn from the "Momentum" granted by Ouyang Hai. Though he hadn\'t yet fully studied it, merely channeling its latent energy was enough to overwhelm Min Jiangtao.
"Since we\'ve met, let me give you an opportunity," Zhang Xuan said, his expression softening into a kind smile. "Your cultivation is currently at the peak of the Second Level of the Star River Realm. The reason you’ve been unable to break through is your unclear heart and unrefined spirit. These stem from innate flaws and lingering insecurities. If I help you resolve them, wouldn’t that solve the issue?"
Min Jiangtao trembled, his eyes widening in disbelief. His condition had persisted for years, defying every remedy he’d tried, including countless elixirs. Yet, this man saw through it at a glance. Such insight surpassed everyone he’d ever met.
He was indeed extraordinary—a true elite of the Destiny Hall headquarters.
Zhang Xuan stood, his hands clasped behind his back. "Humans possess six roots: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. Only when these roots are complete can one understand and establish their Fate. Your issue lies in incomplete roots, making breakthrough exceedingly difficult. Let me guide you. Have you heard of the Forget-Me Herb?"
Min Jiangtao nodded. "Yes. It’s an herb with a unique fragrance, said to induce illusions and relieve sorrow. Some call it Forgetfulness Herb or Worry-Relieving Grass."
"Precisely. Before attempting a breakthrough to the Third Level of the Star River Realm, find one and consume it on a stormy night. It may yield miraculous results. But understand, this is a temporary fix. True understanding of Fate requires more profound methods," Zhang Xuan explained before gesturing toward the door. "That’s all for now. I still need to heal. Take care, \'Senior Brother.\'"
"Yes!" Recognizing the dismissal, Min Jiangtao rose and left in a hurry. Only after exiting the room did he notice his back drenched in cold sweat. The man’s presence was simply too overwhelming.
"Forget-Me Herb… I’ll give it a try!" Min Jiangtao clenched his fists in determination. The man had subtly indicated that loyalty could bring even greater rewards—solutions to his flaws, breakthroughs to higher realms, and possibly dominance over the Mo Dao Sect.
"This is a golden opportunity!" His eyes gleamed with excitement.
Inside the room, Zhang Xuan exhaled in relief. Although he had mastered the Pathos of Heaven Fate, without igniting his New World, he was still slightly weaker than a Star River Second Level peak expert. Bluffing had been nerve-wracking, but fortunately, it had worked.
"This \'Momentum\' is incredibly useful. I should delve deeper into its secrets," Zhang Xuan mused, his mind entering the Library of Heaven\'s Path. With a wave of his hand, the massive Fate bestowed by Ouyang Hai materialized before him.
The blue-gray energy flowed like smoke, its current dynamic yet gentle. Within it, Zhang Xuan sensed a ceaselessly surging force akin to a mighty river.
The river’s bed was vast, but its flow seemed weak, barely occupying the central stream. To fill it entirely, it would require an immense amount of Heaven’s Fate Energy.
He estimated the need for at least a billion units to fill the entire river. Even with the two million units he’d just poured in, it had only restored about one-fifth of its capacity.
"Such a bottomless pit…" Zhang Xuan muttered, shaking his head. Yet, the potential of this "Momentum" excited him. When unleashed, it magnified his presence, making him appear as an invincible giant.
His newfound power startled both Sun Qiang and Dao Li, who accidentally dropped their belongings in fear. Their reactions confirmed the sheer intimidation of the "Giant Wave Momentum."
"With this, no one will doubt my facade as a top expert. Time to head for Zouyi Dynasty and seek out Kong Shi!" Zhang Xuan smiled, a glint of confidence in his eyes.
